Abstract

This article addresses the question: ‘what is knowledge, and whose knowledge counts?’ The premise is that power and knowledge are inextricably linked. At different times, and representing different cultural eras, philosophers, church leaders, scientists, politicians and owners of big business have been influential in shaping ideas about knowledge.
