Abstract

Videographic Entanglements is an international symposium that will focus on videographic research, scholarship, and knowledge across disciplines. This event is part of a longer-term project, organized by Ben Spatz (Huddersfield, UK) with Alan O’Leary (Aarhus) and Johannes Binotto (Zurich), that aims to develop an international network for interdisciplinary videographic scholarship.

I was invited to participate in the roundtable 4: Audiovisual Bodies to discuss the ethnics of capturing, preserving, editing and representing a human or non-human body on the screen. What are the ethnical considerations in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, ability, age, social class and species? How do we challenge the mainstream practices of video and film making to give agency to the multiple agents in front of the camera? What is the role of identity as a dynamic agent in videographic research?
