Andy's research focuses on the antecedents and consequences of participation in sport and exercise. His main areas of interest are the consequences of perfectionism (an achievement-related personality trait) for athletes, exercisers, and youth sport participants. He has published in leading journals in sport and exercise psychology, health psychology, and general psychology on this topic. This work includes collaborations with colleagues at other UK universities (e.g. Dr Paul Appleton, University of Birmingham, Dr Paul Davis, Northumbria University, and Professor Joan Duda, University of Birmingham) and universities abroad (e.g., Dr Sanna Nordin-Bates, The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences, Sweden, and Dr John Gotwals, Lakehead University, Canada).
