This piece works to provide contexts and perspectives of the intertidal zone. The intertidal zone is a harsh environment of contrasts where rocks are baked by the sun before being thrashed by waves and plunged underwater before the cycle
continues anew. The organisms that call this space home are resilient and are often overlooked as small and insignificant parts of our marine wildlife.

The Be the Sea project worked with community groups to capture and consider the intertidal zone from a more-than-human perspective which incorporated deep listening and acoustic ecology methodologies to better understand this part of our coastline. The project was focussed upon the Tyne to Tees coastline in the North East of England, an often unappreciated area of coastline which has been heavily sculpted and scarred by industry, as have many coastlines across the globe. It is important to consider what our impact has been on these areas and how this might be impacting the life that calls it their home.

If a shore crab cannot camouflage itself because of the noise pollution from our shipping industry, what does that mean for the species in the future? When we are walking over rocks and splashing in rockpools, whose habitat are we disturbing? We would like to take you on a sound walk of our Tyne to Tees coastline, from the rocky shore to the microclimate of a rockpool and the deep of the sea beyond the harbour
wall. Sit back and be immersed in our marine environment and consider what this might be like from the perspective of a humble limpet or a shore crab.

Each miniature will provide a 'context' of a 30-second field recording from the intertidal zone, edited by Louise Mackenzie and recorded as of part of the Be the Sea Project. These are then followed by an artistic more-then-human 'perspective' performed by the saxophone quartet.
