The challenges and the growing issues of ethical scandals in respect to leadership in diverse organisations (public, private and hybrid sectors) has driven the growing demand for ethicality as a core aspect of leadership. This has driven the necessity for critical research works in the field of ethical leadership as a solution to these ethical challenges. The adoption of the concept of ethical leadership in recent years as a countermeasure towards the surge of ethical scandals involving leaders in organisations.
This paper analyses the general concept of ethical leadership as a critical aspect of today’s ethical problems. This paper addresses the necessity and provides a detailed understanding of the concept of ethical leadership. The paper provides six critical perspectives of ethical leadership namely the identity perspective, the follower’s perspective, the sectors perspective, the performance perspective, the behavioural perspective and cultural perspective. Finally, this paper provides a way forward in the ethical leadership field.
