Abstract

Connectionist models of inflectional morphology developed in the context of broader considerations of the nature of neurocognitive mechanisms underpinning language and cognition. Early models contrasted the connectionist approach to symbolic theories and focused on phonological information and the acquisitions of the English past tense. More recent models included semantics and expanded to more complex inflectional systems, and a range of behavioral phenomena in language development and adult use.
