Abstract: | In Praise of the Garage is a film and artwork manifestation of life writing, a space to reflect on arts practice, and the memory scape of my youth. It is not a feature film; it is a documentary short that spans daily arts practice and the making of an artwork: an art motorcycle. It is an evolution of woodchuck into more direct autobiographical narratives. The act of making can be nourishing, it can add value and make sense of existence, it can act as therapy, it can overcome frustration, malaise, boredom. It can empower. For some it can be a catalyst or a launchpad, it might help you identify what you don’t want to do, it could be an opportunity to ‘devolve to evolve’. In an act of pandemic inspired DIY autophilia, one man builds a Twin Peaks inspired art motorcycle in his garage as an exploration of the past, the future and masculinity. |
