Abstract

Research projects need considerable planning in advance before conducting the fieldwork; in practice, however, ethnographers almost invariably encounter several unexpected issues during their fieldwork. This chapter focuses on the negotiation trajectories of my own research project which examined intermarriage families’ multilingual practices in the context of family home and complementary school.
By specifically highlighting the moment-to-moment process of negotiating my positionality as a researcher, the chapter discusses the impact these issues have had on my data collection procedure, and how reflecting on these aspects has shaped my arguments. "
