HISTORIOGRAPHY IN ACTION TEACHING AND LEARNING HISTORIOGRAPHICAL APPROACHES THROUGH ACTIVE PRIMARY SOURCE ANALYSIS.docx - Accepted Version

Abstract

Undergraduate students on historiographical-focused modules often fail to engage with the methodologies of the discipline, finding the subjects dry and irrelevant to their historical studies. My research here, based on approaches undertaken in the classroom across Sheffield and YSJU, embeds learning about the research methodologies of historians in primary source analysis, allowing students to 'do' the approach they are learning about. This enables them to put into practice the approaches in the classroom, further supporting their development as historians within the discipline.
