Abstract

This paper proposes a coaching focused model of professional strength and conditioning. In this proposal we challenge the current philosophy and present a model of practice which considers the evidence base of professional knowledge. Specifically we present a challenge to the dominance of a biomedical model of practice. It argues that personal interaction as opposed to science should form the foundations of understanding the professional practice. Ultimately we attempt to define the nature of the strength and conditioning profession and the factors which underpin its effectiveness in meeting its professional objectives.
