Działoszyce: Song, Border, Body is a research statement for the video essay (with the same name) which captures a laboratory session of the Judaica Project: A Laboratory for Songwork (2017). The written statement contextualizes the video essay by asking the following questions: What is significant about this site, Działoszyce (Poland), performatively, ecologically, and politically? How is the video essay (as a format) an ecoperformance? Why is it critical to conceptualize a performance laboratory as ecological? What aesthetic and ethical responsibilities are born as a result of such conceptualization?
