Abstract

Traditionally, students need to print out a hard copy of their coursework and submit it manually for marking. This causes all kind of difficulties for both lecturers and students. Problems for students include the need to go in physically to submit, wait in a queue, hand in late due to transport problem etc. Problems for lecturers include the need to come in to collect the assignments for marking, difficulties in transporting large amount of essays and having to repeatedly write down the same comments for common errors and difficulty etc. By using e-submission and e-grading (also known as e-marking), all these problems can be easily overcome. However, e-submission and e-grading also come with problems of their own. In this study, we will evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of using e-submission and e-grading to support teaching and learning for computer network students at the University of Derby through both lecturers’ and students’ perspectives.
