Sam Pheby-McGarvey is a UK based writer currently studying a PhD in creative writing at York St John University. He is a lover of nature, gardening, surfing and being immersed in the natural world.
This love is reflected in his research and writing. Which explores representations of non-humans in literature, and narratives of transformation exploring non-human consciousness to build a more harmonious relationship between humanity and the world.
Outside of academia he writes, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and a smattering of poetry. His work blends prose poetry and speculative fiction to imagine utopian or dystopian futures that explore the darker recesses of the human and non-human condition.

In my masters degree within my creative practice I focused on weird fiction, representations of nonhuman entities, hybrid prose poetry, representations of the ‘other’, and folk horror. Within my literature modules I focused on 19th century representations of conditioning the body in The Jungle Book, and love and lyric poetry. On this Ma I studied the following modules literature modules alongside my dissertation, and creative writing modules, Love and Lyric, Victorian Bodies. (Try and find module names)
