Abstract
We are very proud to present the findings of the Menfulness co-participatory Evaluation of Service project carried out between October 2023 and July 2024. The research team were drawn from York St John and the Menfulness charity and were Dr Gary Shepherd (Research Lead), Holly Murphy (Research Assistant & Postgraduate student), Jack Woodhams (Menfulness founder and Trustee) and Sam Watling (Menfulness Trustee). Our project task was both simple and complex, in the first instance we were to evaluate how Menfulness delivered their services in relation to The Samaritans (2021) Engaging men earlier: a guide to service design* recommendations. Our second task was to attempt to take a look “under the hood” of the charity in an attempt to capture some of the ways in which Menfulness improved men’s mental health and reduced suicidality.
