Abstract:

Ta ka di mi is a vibrant celebration of South Asian dance and musical theatre, performed at York Theatre Royal. Drawing from a range of South Asian dance genres, the production blends rhythmic footwork, expressive gesture, and dynamic movement with the rich textures of traditional and contemporary music. Bursting with colour and cultural diversity, the piece highlights the rhythmic syllables “ta‑ka‑di‑mi” as the heartbeat of the performance, guiding dancers through patterns of energy, storytelling, and emotion. The work invites audiences into a lively cross‑cultural experience that honours heritage while presenting South Asian performance traditions in an accessible, modern form.
