Abstract

Not so very long ago in Great Britain, little children had to pack up a few of their most important belongings and leave their towns and cities to go to the countryside. These children were leaving their homes to be kept safe from the dangers of war. They were called evacuees. Some of the children were brought to a beautiful place called Cornwall, which juts out into the Atlantic Ocean like an open arm.

One day, the evacuees in Cornwall were invited to a big Christmas party at a grand old house named Prideaux Place. Once there, they discovered a house full of extraordinary characters, from Gertie the Land Girl to the devoted Lord Edmund and the anxious Lady Bridget – as well as a robin with an astonishing story to tell…

This children's book is based on the promenade performance at Prideaux Place in December 2017 produced by Simon Birch Dance and Dance Republic 2.
