Abstract

Kimberly Campanello creates a powerful new version of the ancient Sanskrit tantric text the Hymn to Kālī (Karpūrādi-stotra). It emerges from her obsession with ‘fierce’ forms of the divine feminine and her research and practice in meditation, postural yoga and tantra, which took her across India.

The poems in this pamphlet are also the basis of cases of sudden conversion, a performance piece for poetry and live electronics created in collaboration with composer and sound artist Jon Hughes. It premiered in May 2016 at a special evening event at Kolanko No. 6 in Kraków, Poland, as part of the Modern Yoga Research Group/Jagiellonian University conference ‘Yoga darśana, yoga sādhana: traditions, transmissions, transformations’.
