Abstract

This paper offers a discussion on the affect of the singer Roy Orbison's dark sound. It's relationship to to desire and a post Freudian/Lacanian notion of a death drive. It draws upon the phenomenon of the 'coolest uncool loser'and deconstructs his masochistic persona in the context of the term 'Lynchian' cinema.
